Critics and naysayers would most likely describe India using terms such as immensely overrated, blatant hipster bait, contrived, easily bored, pretentious, frigid, unrelatable, polarizing, irritatingly opinionated, preachy, and last but not a least, rampant "SJW". Her fans, however, tend to describe India as being genre-defying, refreshingly eccentric, self-aware, educated, curious, outspoken but articulate, passionate, unapologetically principled, honest, hard working, focused, skilled, artistic, and confident. As far as India can be bothered to comment, she thinks both camps are equally correct and equally incorrect in their efforts to label her.

Her parents met and fell in love in New York City. Jens was a Danish ballet dancer training at Juilliard, and Anxela, a Cuban-born poet-in-training, had made the move from New Orleans to New York in hopes of someday seeing her work published. Though the couple never officially married, they often referred to one another as husband and wife, and were still fully committed and faithful to one another when Jens died of liver cancer in 2004.

India has been training as a dancer for as long as she can remember. Her father had been a member of the Royal Ballet of London for many years, and it was shortly after his death that India left her family home to try and find work as a professional dancer in London. To this day, India insists that it was her background in dance that really got her started on the path to becoming a bona fide musician.

India is not, and has never been, on good speaking terms with her father's side of the family. Jens' relationship with Anxela drew intense disapproval from his parents, who eventually cut all ties with their youngest son when it became clear he would not break things off with his bohemian girlfriend. The last time India had contact with any member of the extended Rhee family was at her father's funeral in 2004.

Has worked for several prominent musicians and performers during her time spent pursuing a dance career in London. To date, she has been featured as a backup dancer in music videos for popular artists including Kylie Minogue, Plan B, Jessie J, Kanye West, M.I.A. and many more.

Very resentful of the fact that she is expected to "market herself" in order to establish herself as a successful performer. She has gradually grown more comfortable with giving interviews and doing photo shoots, but it has been a slow process and she will still freeze up and shut down with reporters and photographers alike if they start getting too inappropriate or invasive about her private life.

Doesn't affiliate herself with any one particular religion. She was raised to appreciate all shades and shapes of faith, spirituality, religion, human connection, enlightenment, higher power, etc. Live and let live was one of the central guidelines in the Rhee household while India was growing up, and that state of mind has stuck with her well into adulthood.

Never met a psychedelic or hallucinogen she didn't like.

Has a notoriously short attention span and can be extremely flighty. She has been known to go missing during parties or other large social gatherings, mainly because she is an unapologetic supporter of the Black Irish Exit and utilises it often.

Having been raised in a very forward-thinking environment by a very forward-thinking mother, India was encouraged to address her mother by her first name starting at a relatively young age. These days, both her and her brother most commonly refer to their mother by her given name, Anxela.

Her pop culture awareness is approximately 15 years behind schedule. The list of films and television shows she means to check out is sky high and she is slowly working through it at a snails pace. She has never signed up for a Netflix account, and the last video game console she can remember playing on was the Sega Dreamcast that belonged to her older brother back when they were children. She does, however, read a fair amount of pop culture coverage and analysis and has been known to sometimes make a point of checking out a specific movie or show if she feels it might align with her interests. Just don't expect her to discuss Game of Throne plot points or the twist ending of last summer's big blockbuster anytime soon.

She is also happily removed from social networking. She briefly had accounts on Instagram and Twitter, but the sheer amount of racist hate and general vitriol received after entering the music industry was more than enough to send her packing indefinitely. Regardless of her strong aversion to all things reblogged and retweeted, India can still appreciate the good that has come from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, et al, but for the most part her lack of involvement is something she's not looking to return to the aforementioned sites anytime soon.

Has thirteen piercings in total in addition to a growing collection of tattoos, including but not limited to: Patti Smith's "my sins my own" tattooed in script along her collarbone, a triangle surrounded by six dots on her forearm, a flock of birds on her right shoulder, matching crescent moons on both middle fingers, her father's initials flanked by doves on her back, a small circle on her arm, jimi hendrix's "not necessarily stoned, but beautiful" on her ribs, the danish word for "continue" on her instep, the Latin phrase "per aspera ad astra" on her ring finger, a crown in the style of Jean-Michel Basquiat on her knuckle, a heart with the word "mama" underneath just above her elbow, an anchor on her bicep, the phrase "a blessed unrest" in script beneath her left breast, a lemniscate behind her ear, bjork's "every boy is a snake is a lily / every pearl is a lynx is a girl" on her hipbone, and the phrase "hello, friend." in type on the inside of her middle finger.

Bunita Applebun and Ledge, Archbishop of Banterbunny are her most beloved confidants.
